What is the PTE Academic?

The Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic is a computer-based English language proficiency test recognised by universities, colleges, and governments around the world. It measures reading, writing, listening, and speaking through integrated tasks that reflect real academic settings, and the whole test is completed in a single two-hour session.

How is the PTE Academic scored?

Section scores and your overall score both range from 10 to 90 points. PTE Academic is fully computer-scored using automated algorithms, so every communicative skill is evaluated impartially. Your overall score reflects your performance across Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing combined.

What do PTE scores mean in IELTS terms?

A PTE score of 59–75 corresponds to a Good User (IELTS 6.5–7.5), 76–85 to a Very Good User (IELTS 7.5–8.0), and 86–90 to an Expert User (IELTS 8.5–9.0). Each PTE band maps roughly onto a level of proficiency and an equivalent IELTS range — use this as a guide rather than an exact conversion.

  2. Manage your time on integrated writing tasks, which require rapid, accurate summarisation.
  3. Master sentence structure, grammar, and spelling for written summaries and essay tasks.
  4. Take official mock tests to get comfortable with the automated interface and question types, and track your scores over time.
