Base Registration Fee and Regional Pricing

ETS prices the TOEFL iBT differently in each country, and the site shows the exact fee only after you pick your test location on the official ETS fees page. There is no flat worldwide price, so the number a friend paid in another country tells you nothing about yours. Fees include sales, VAT, or GST tax in most countries.

A specific list of countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, European Union members, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Nigeria, excludes tax from the listed price and adds it at checkout instead. Because pricing changes by country and updates over time, treat any figure you see elsewhere as an estimate. Late Registration Fee

The deadline you miss decides which fee applies. ETS runs three registration windows, each with its own cutoff. The table below shows each window and its deadline.

Rescheduling and Cancellation Fees

Changing your test date or canceling your registration costs money too, and the amount you get back depends on timing. The cutoff for both actions is 4 full days before your test date. The list below shows each scenario and its cost or refund.

Reschedule at least 4 full days before your test date: $69 rescheduling fee.
Cancel at least 4 full days before your test date: automatic 50 percent refund of the original test fee, credited to your original payment method, sometimes as two separate 50-percent transactions.
Cancel after the 4-day deadline, or for improper registration or ID issues: no refund.
Express fee, if paid: refunded too when the cancellation itself qualifies for a refund.

Test takers in Korea follow a separate refund schedule tied to how long ago they registered, not only how close the test date is. The clock starts on your registration date, and the refund shrinks in steps from there. The table below shows each timing band and its refund.

Additional Official Score Report Fees

Your test fee covers up to 4 free official score reports sent to institutions you name before test day. The free-designation deadline is 10pm local test-center time the day before your test. Name your schools before this cutoff to avoid paying extra later.

Other TOEFL Fees to Know

ETS charges several other fees for optional services. Most of them come into play after test day, when you change your mind about scores or a payment fails. The table below lists each service with its cost.

You are allowed to request a score review through your ETS account for up to 30 days after your test date. The option closes once your scores reach an institution or agency. Order any review before you send scores out.

Budgeting for a Possible Retake

TOEFL scores stay valid for 2 years after your test date, and ETS places no limit on how many times you are allowed to retake the exam. The only restriction is timing: a new attempt is not allowed within 3 days of an existing or previous appointment. The 3-day rule holds even when you canceled the scores from the earlier test.

Budget for more than one attempt if your score goal sits far from your practice results. Each retake adds the full base fee again, plus any late, rescheduling, or extra score report fees you incur along the way. For tests taken on or after January 21, 2026, scores post to your ETS account about 3 days after the test, so you learn quickly whether a retake is needed.
