How Your Test Report Form Reaches You

Free TRF Copies

IELTS sends up to 5 copies of your Test Report Form free of charge to the institutions and organisations you name. Each copy goes straight to the recipient, so the institution receives your score from IELTS and not from you. Five copies cover most application shortlists, so rank your targets before you spend the allowance.

Additional TRF Copies

Requests beyond the free five are handled through the Test Taker Portal. Each extra copy carries a small administration charge. The amount varies by test centre and country, so ask your local centre for the exact fee. Additional copy requests are accepted only within 2 years of your test date, and, like the free copies, extra Test Report Forms are sent to institutions and never to the candidate.

Naming your recipients accurately matters most when your score supports an application such as a UK student visa, Canada immigration, or an Australia visa. Each of these bodies works from the Test Report Form it receives directly from IELTS. A copy sent to the wrong office slows the whole application down. Check the receiving department named in the visa or admissions guidance before you submit your request.

TRF Validity Period

IELTS partners set a practical shelf life on your Test Report Form, even though the document itself carries no expiry date. Institutions apply the 2 year guideline when they decide whether to accept your score. The points below set out the limits and what happens once your score passes them.

• IELTS recommends a TRF demonstrates your English ability for a maximum of 2 years from the test date, because language skills change over time.
• A TRF older than 2 years should only be accepted by an institution if you provide proof you have maintained or improved your English since the test.
• IELTS cannot run further verification checks on a TRF older than 3 years, so plan to retest if your score is aging out of this window.

Check the specific policy of the university, employer, or immigration body you are applying to, since some accept older scores under stated conditions. Ask what evidence of maintained English they take if your Test Report Form is past the 2 year mark. Book a fresh test date early when your score is close to the limit and your application timeline runs long. Retaking keeps your score inside the window while your application is still under review.

Enquiry on Results: Requesting a Remark

If you believe a section score does not reflect your performance, you are allowed to request a formal remark called an Enquiry on Results. Senior examiners review your work again, without sight of your original section scores. You decide whether the whole test or single sections go back for review. Deadline and How to Apply

You must submit your Enquiry on Results within 6 weeks of your test date, either online through the Test Taker Portal or in person at your test centre. The 6 weeks run from the test date itself, so start early if your results arrived late in the window. Decide which sections you want reviewed before you open the request form. A narrower request is quicker to process than a full remark.

Fee and Refund

You pay the Enquiry on Results fee upfront, and the amount varies by test centre. The fee is fully refunded if your band score changes as a result of the remark. No single global figure is published, so check the current amount with the centre where you sat the test. Budget for the payment at the time of the request, since any refund follows only after the remark is complete.

What Gets Remarked

Senior examiners and markers re-mark your test papers without seeing your original section scores, which keeps the review independent. You set the scope of the request yourself. Two options are open to you.

• The whole test, covering Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
• One or more individual sections only.

Processing Timeline

Results from an Enquiry on Results arrive the same day or take up to 21 days, depending on how many sections you asked to be remarked.
